Check List

* Please note that applicants can only check their application status by using the online application 'checklist', which is updated daily.

Note: Online applications open December 1, 2011 and close February 1, 2012

Print this step-by-step check list to help ensure your application is complete. Application deadline is February 1 before the September program start date. Applicants are encouraged to begin the application process early, in order to leave sufficient time to obtain the necessary documents and test results.

Step 1

Determine your eligibility to apply to a UBC graduate program by reviewing the graduate admissions information available at the Faculty of Graduate Studies website.

Step 2

Apply online to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. It takes about 30 - 45 minutes and you will need a credit card.  The included letter of intent (700 words) should clearly articulate applicants' reasons for pursuing the MPH at UBC and how the degree will support their professional goals.

Step 3

All applicants must arrange to have two official copies of their transcripts from all colleges and universities attended sent directly to the UBC MPH program in envelopes which have been sealed and endorsed by the issuing institution. If the official transcript does not indicate the degree name and the degree conferral date, then two official copies of the degree certificate are required. For current and former UBC students, you do not need to send in official transcripts for your UBC program as part of your graduate application package. However, please be aware that you are still responsible for submitting transcripts from all other post-secondary institutions that you have attended.

Step 4

If you have not taken an undergraduate math or statistics course and achieved a mark of at least 76% in the last ten (10) years, OR written the GRE (or equivalent test) within the past five (5) years, book a date to write the GRE exam. Allow yourself time to practice. Ensure that all applicable test scores are sent directly to the MPH Program Office.

Step 5

If you attended a post-secondary institution in which the primary language of instruction was not English, and have not written the TOEFL within the past two (2) years, book a date to write the test.

Step 6

Contact three (3) individuals who will be able to provide a reference on your behalf. At least one of the references should be from a former instructor at a post-secondary institution. The letters should directly address your ability to excel in a fast-paced, learner-focused graduate program. If desired, the reference form found here may be used. All three reference letters must be sent directly to the MPH Program Office from the referees in sealed envelopes counter-signed on the envelope flap. We do accept electronic references via the online application.

Step 7

Send a detailed and up-to-date curriculum vitae to the MPH Program Office.

Step 8

Permanent residents of Canada must send a photocopy of both sides of their Permanent Resident Card to the MPH Program Office.

Step 9

Check your application status online through the online checklist. This is the only way to see what has arrived as it is updated daily.  (Please note you can only view the online checklist if you have submitted your application.)
